Legoland Dubai to open in 2016

Merlin Entertainments has confirmed it will go ahead with developing a Legoland in Dubai, with the park slated to open in 2016.
“Merlin first looked at opening a Legoland in Dubai about five years ago, but then the country went into economic freefall,” media spokesperson Sally-Ann Wilkinson told Attractions Management.

“Merlin held the option open and has now decided that it will proceed with the park, but there are no further details yet.”

At present, 60 per cent of Merlin's revenue comes from Britain and continental Europe, so the company is keen to broaden its global coverage. Part of this strategy involves attracting the growing middle classes in emerging markets.

Six new attractions will open this year, including a Madame Tussauds in Beijing and its first North American Dungeon in San Francisco. It sees the North American market as having strong growth potential.

Merlin is the second-biggest theme park operator in the world, counting among its brands SeaLife, Madame Tussauds and the soon-to-open Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure.

The Shrek attraction will be an interactive adventure featuring the characters and the first site will launch at London’s County Hall next summer.

This is the first time Merlin has worked with a Hollywood studio to create a scaleable branded entertainment experience based on a globally-recognised entertainment franchise.

Mal sehen ob jetzt nach und nach die 2008 angekündigten Projekte realisiert werden:

Sollte es so kommen, dann könnte Dubai das zweite Orlando werden (aber da sind sie momentan noch weit von entfernt:rolleyes:).

Construction on the site started back in February 2014 and is slated to open to the public in 2016.
This was all part of the big unveiling from Dubai-based development company, Meraas Holding. “Launched under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Parks & Resorts has been designed as a mega leisure and entertainment destination to serve the regions that are within an eight hour flying distance from Dubai.”

The Phase 1 theme parks will be LEGOLAND Dubai, Motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai, along with the Lapita family themed hotel and Riverpark which will serve as an entrance place and location for the on-site retail and dining area.

LEGOLAND Dubai will be the first LEGOLAND park in the middle-east, and 7th Legoland branded park in the world. Bollywood Parks Dubai will serve as the world’s first theme park dedicated solely to the Indian film industry and Motiongate Dubai is described as featuring four themed zones to transport guests on “a journey of discover, brining to life some of the most recognizable Hollywood characters from the big screen. The park will use the latest-in-technology attractions and new-generation rides to offer a distinctly unique, high-value entertainment experience.

Dubai Parks & Resorts LLC Completes 30 Percent of the Infrastructure Development

World-class Consortium of Contractors and Consultants Overseeing Progress

Dubai-UAE: 16 September, 2014 – Dubai Parks & Resorts LLC, a Meraas Holding company, today announced that Phase 1 of the multibillion dollar entertainment and leisure destination has made significant progress with the engagement of a number of world class contractors and consultants.

The development has been designed with the expertise of leading industry firms such as Rabben Herman, Gensler, HOK, RTKL, Forrec and Riva Creative. In addition, consultants including CH2M Hill and Samsung SDS have provided infrastructure design. The overall master plan has been approved by the relevant government authorities.

More than 1,500 personnel have been deployed to develop an initial area of approximately 25 million sq feet at Phase 1 of Dubai Parks & Resorts. The number of workers on site is expected to increase four-fold by 2015. With nearly 30 percent of the infrastructure development already complete, work on the power substation has registered 35 percent headway while excavation work for the district cooling facility has also commenced.

Program management firm Samsung C&T is overseeing the overall progress of the project to ensure its components adhere to scheduled timelines and budgets, while Kier Group is building the utilities component. ETA has been engaged for the power sub-station project and National Central Cooling Company PJSC (“Tabreed”) mandated to set up the district cooling facility.

Besix Orascom is responsible for the majority of the LEGOLAND® Dubai building works, Laing O’Rourke and Al Futtaim Carillion for a large part of Motiongate Dubai, and ARCO General Contracting EST for Bollywood Parks. Hill International has also been contracted to manage the production and installation of all shows and rides, and provide construction management consultancy services for Phase 1 of Dubai Parks & Resorts.

Raed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Dubai Parks & Resorts LLC, said: “A mega project such as Dubai Parks & Resorts requires partners that have a strong track record in developing and delivering leisure and entertainment concepts of this scale. Following a stringent bidding process we have selected consultants and contractors with whom we are working closely to deliver an entertainment experience that brings to life the UAE leadership’s vision of positioning Dubai as a leading global tourist destination.”

Launched under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Parks & Resorts has been designed as a mega leisure and entertainment destination to serve the regions that are within a four hour flying distance from Dubai.

Taking shape at Jebel Ali, the first phase of Dubai Parks & Resorts will comprise three theme parks: Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai, and LEGOLAND® Dubai. The development will also feature Riverpark – a grand entrance plaza and Lapita, a family themed hotel. The first phase is scheduled for completion in 2016.

Dazu noch ein paar Artworks der Eingangsplaza sowie des Riverparks (einer Wasserpromenade). Das wird wohl vom Konzept her vergleichbar zum Universal Citywalk, der mehrere Park miteinander verbindet :)

Dubai Parks & Resorts LLC, a Meraas Holding company, today announced plans for Riverpark, the grand entrance plaza that will interconnect the three theme parks defining phase one of the mega leisure and entertainment destination.

Das kommt überraschend:

arabianbusiness.com schrieb:
Dubai Parks and Resorts, a Meraas Holding company, on Tuesday announced the appointment of Parques Reunidos as park operators for two theme parks planned for the emirate.

A deal to run motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai will marks Parques Reunidos' foray into the Middle East and was announced on the sidelines of the World Travel Market in London.
